Private John Blackburn

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

John Blackburn enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Dublin on 21 August 1916 (No.2242). He was described as being 5' 8ΒΌ" tall, with a sallow complexion and dark hair, and with scars on his right forehand and the back of his left forefinger. He stated that he was aged 25, was born in Liverpool, and worked as a motor driver.

Blackburn was reported to have deserted from the regiment's reserve base at Antrim on 8 September 1916, just 18 days after he had enlisted. It is not known whether he was subsequently apprehended or returned to duty.
